THE SKI OSCARS REWARD PIERRE JOSSERAND, THROUGH THE WORLD SKI AWARDS ACADEMY
«Val Tho» (to its friends), was thought up and created by small group of men, including Pierre Josserand, President of SETAM (Val Thorens ski lift company), a visionary pioneer who truly believed that «anything is possible».
In the 1970’s, he encouraged his friends to take a wild gamble on this place, «where even the cows didn’t go to graze». Disputed and challenged on many an occasion, he finally succeeded in bringing this exceptional mountainous cirque to life.
Striving constantly to make it a world leader, the resort has been his life’s work.
It is for the «extraordinary contribution to the world of tourism and ski, by a gentleman and an inspirational ski industry pioneer» that the WORLD SKI AWARDS reward «a life devoted to the development and improvement of the skiing environment on an international scale».
Pierre Josserand is an innovative man, always one step ahead of his time and open-minded enough to consider new inventions, often considered to be extravagant for their era, such as the Péclet Funitel lift in 1980 (cable car with two parallel haul ropes).
The Legion of Honour has already awarded him for his life’s work.
This SKI OSCAR, presented by the World Ski Awards Academy pays tribute to the work, vision, energy, initiative, innovations and state of mind inspired by Pierre Josserand.
The whole resort will be celebrating this prestigious award at the Grande Première launch of the new winter season on the 26th of November.
