"Anne and Olivier Palmieri's "lip-smacking bear" is a regional landmark. Their beautiful chalet-style shop right in the heart of the resort is so chic and their products do honour to Savoie" Gilles Pudlowski - Food Critic.
Savoie has a rich culinary history and some exceptional, though often confidential, products. L’Ours Gourmand is a haven for gourmets and over the years has uncovered some real treasures. Among the cheeses refined by Joseph Paccard, the Beaufort de Chalet d’Alpage is an absolute must, as is the Reblochon farm cheese (winning a Gold Medal at the 2016 Paris Agricultural Show). The Mondeuse marc or hay Tommes de Savoie cheeses are also very appreciated. Naturally, Savoie Hams and charcuterie are given a place of honour.
This high-quality offering also includes Tartiflette to take home, some cuts of meat (Angus beef from Ireland) and some deli dishes. Creations by two-star Michelin Chef Jean Sulpice, who is the pride of Val Thorens, are sold here exclusively: foie gras, soups, gratins, mashed potatoes with truffles, brandade of cod, etc. Not forgetting the exquisite home-made jams (wild blueberries and caraway, apples and lovage, raspberries and tarragon, etc. ).
L’Ours Gourmand has also managed to build its customers loyalty through its remarkable selection of wines that include great discoveries (some organic wines) as well as very prestigious labels (Bollinger and Henriot Champagnes, Bouchard Père & Fils Burgundy, great Bordeaux wines, etc). Savoie is well represented with Louis Magnin, Les Ardoisières, Bouvet, Berthollier and Grisard, gastronomical wines offering endless arrays of food/ wine combinations. Not forgetting the traditional Génépi Noir, and some more complex spirits.
Lastly, L’Ours Gourmand sells the whole range of Opinel knives, rhyming with modernity and regional tradition.
