How did the idea of the Kontum start ?
F-X Helar : I come from the « bahar » culture in Vietnam, and I know the difficulties that the population in this region can encounter extremely well. As a ski instructor in Val Thorens, I wanted to create a sporting and charitable event with my friends and the support of Val Thorens.

 

How does this event aid the ethnic minorities in the Kontum region ?
All the profits are given to the Amphore Vietnam  and AAMEV (Association to help the Ethnic Minorities in Vietnam) Associations, so that they can continue to equip the hospitals, help the local farmers and save the cultural identity of the country's mountain folk.

 

Tell me about this year's event ?
The event is over two weekends at the end of April : Kontum Snowboard  the 19th & 20th  April and Kontum Ski from 1st to 4th May.
The Kontum Snowboard weekend takes place on the snowpark with a Banked Slalom (timed slalom, made up of raised bends). The competition is open to everyone, with no minimum standard or age conditions. It is, above all, a competition which allows everyone to measure himself, in complete security, against the best current snow-boarders. In addition, numerous film sequences filmed by Serge Vitelli will be shown this year.

The Kontum Ski programme is just as rich, with a Giant Slalom, an Asiatic show and a film preview of the documentary « The forgotten mountain inhabitants » with France 5.
