The 4 pedestrian paths of Val Thorens

The Montagnette trail

Facing due south, the path leaves the Balcons district, towards Les Menuires, to arrive at Montagnette (small stone house). Once arrived, turn around and enjoy a magnificent panorama of the Péclet massif as you return towards Val Thorens. If you want to extend the walk, it is possible to go down to the Bruyères district in Les Menuires.

The 2 lakes trail

At the foot of the Castor and Pollux carpets at the slopes roundabout, head towards the Chalet du Cosmojet. To the right of the Chalet du Cosmojet, you will see the presence of markings and the path rises quickly. A few meters later, the path climbs steadily on a gentle slope to a plateau. The trail offers a very beautiful view of the station.

The Navy trail

This trail can be done entirely on foot starting from the Chalet du Cosmojet, going up and down, or with less effort by taking the Cascades chairlift on the way up and the path on the way down. This magnificent, sunny 5 km (round trip) trail offers a panoramic view of the resort and its cirque surrounded by peaks over 3000 meters.

If you go up on foot, once at the foot of the Castor and Pollux carpets, head towards the Chalet du Cosmojet.

If you are going up by the chairlift, exit the chairlift on your left. Then take the path which describes a wide curve on the left. Join the Chalet de la Marine then cross the Dalles piste, follow the Tête Ronde lake on the right, walk along the ridge before reaching the Chalet de Thorens. Take a detour to the unusual Igloo Village. Gentle return to the resort via the Flocons piste, then crossing the Combe de Thorens to return to the Chalet du Cosmojet.

The Moutière trail

The trail starts at the Chalet du Cosmojet. Take the start of the 2 Lacs trail to the large plateau. Arriving there, continue on the right and join the hill reservoirs. Warning: do not cross the barriers and do not venture onto the lakes. You will arrive near the Traversée des 2 Lacs slope, the 2 Lacs restaurant and the chairlift of the same name. The path continues downstream of the Linotte track to reach the Moutière plateau with the restaurant of the same name and the altisurface. On the right, walk along the Moutière reservoir to admire the view of the Belleville Valley. For the return, take the same route.

Ski lifts accessible to pedestrians to admire the panoramas

At 3200 m altitude, Cime Caron offers one of the most grandiose panoramas in Europe, with a 360° overview of more than 1000 peaks of the French, Italian and Swiss Alps. An orientation table also allows you to spot Mont Blanc, Mont Brequin, the Péclet glacier and its Aiguilles, La Meije, the Aiguilles d'Arves.

The foot of the Péclet glacier is accessible by Funitel of Péclet in 8 minutes from the station. Catering possible at the “Aiguilles de Péclet”.

The 1-day pedestrian pass Val Thorens – Orelle allows you to explore the Maurienne side of the mountain area by taking the Cairn / Caron gondolas,  Cime Caron cable car and Orelle-Caron gondola
