Saturday 19th November, Val Thorens, voted Best Ski Resort in the World for the 3rd time running and Best French Resort for the 4th time running 6 years ago, a rare and innovative re-assessment gave customers a chance to voice their opinions, which led to the resort taking concrete action to re-invent its hospitality and snowsports experiences. Today's double triumph confirms Val Thorens' position as a leading French and international resort.

A «LIVE UNITED» RESORT

These honours are the result of a common vision and values that are shared by an entire resort, brought together through the «Live United» state of
mind. Together, the people of Val Thorens have given themselves the means to set their sights on excellence, allowing the resort to reach its full
potential and take leader position. In Val Thorens, united we stand.

INVEST FOR THE GOOD OF EVERYONE

Since 2010, Val Thorens set up an action plan including :

- Creating new experiences on the ski area and in the resort, such as the mega zip wire and the Funslope.
- Renovating and building to offer a high quality of life to locals and visitors alike.

Val Thorens has its sights set on excellence in all areas, developing a comprehensive range of accommodation. Six 4 and 5 star hotels have been
created in just 6 years, to satisfy the needs of its international visitors.Opened in 2014, the 5 star Koh-I Nor hotel also won the title of Best Hotel in the World at the World Ski Awards.

FRENCH SAVOIR-FAIRE RECOGNISED AROUND THE WORLD

Grégory Guzzo, director of Val Thorens tourist office said: «Our customers like us and they’re not afraid to tell us. Skiers around the world like us and they tell us too. What better recognition can you ask for! Being voted for amongst the crème de la crème of resorts brings responsibility but no guarantees. The work carried out by each and every one of us, along with a clear strategy will pay off in the long run. Val Thorens was created by visionary men who were committed to their goal; pioneers whose state of mind is still very much at the forefront of our minds today. Val Thorens also makes an unrivalled level of constant investment, which allows our customers to enjoy a high level of service, reduces time spent queuing or travelling in lifts, and increases the amount of time actually spent skiing. The hundreds of thousands of votes prove that our customers are loyal to us, and are very fond of us».

THE SKI OSCARS REWARD PIERRE JOSSERAND, THROUGH THE WORLD SKI AWARDS ACADEMY

«Val Tho» (to its friends), was thought up and created by small group of men, including Pierre Josserand, President of SETAM (Val Thorens ski lift company), a visionary pioneer who truly believed that «anything is possible».

In the 1970’s, he encouraged his friends to take a wild gamble on this place, «where even the cows didn’t go to graze». Disputed and challenged on many an occasion, he finally succeeded in bringing this exceptional mountainous cirque to life.

Striving constantly to make it a world leader, the resort has been his life’s work.

It is for the «extraordinary contribution to the world of tourism and ski, by a gentleman and an inspirational ski industry pioneer» that the WORLD SKI AWARDS reward «a life devoted to the development and improvement of the skiing environment on an international scale».

Pierre Josserand is an innovative man, always one step ahead of his time and open-minded enough to consider new inventions, often considered to be extravagant for their era, such as the Péclet Funitel lift in 1980 (cable car with two parallel haul ropes).

The Legion of Honour has already awarded him for his life’s work.

This SKI OSCAR, presented by the World Ski Awards Academy pays tribute to the work, vision, energy, initiative, innovations and state of mind inspired by Pierre Josserand.

The whole resort will be celebrating this prestigious award at the Grande Première launch of the new winter season on the 26th of November.
