"And the World Best Ski Resort 2013 is...Val Thorens!" That was the moment the whole Val Thorens team in Kitzbühel erupted into whoops and cheers.

Val Thorens receives three international awards!

Just a few weeks after having been voted the Most Innovative European Resort at the World Snow Awards on the 1st of November in London, on the 16th of November in Kitzbühel, Val Thorens received two new titles: those of France's Best Ski Resort and World's Best Ski Resort! These new awards are a real accolade because they were received primarily thanks to the public vote.

The team is thrilled because the Award of the World's Best Ski Resort is fantastic recognition for the long journey embarked on by the resort's first pioneers in 1971.

Congratulations to the resort's key players! Congratulations to you!

It's even more exciting because the World Ski Awards 2013 are a world first. Organised to mark the 20th anniversary of the famous World Travel Awards, they welcomed no fewer than 188 resorts competing from 20 key winter sports tourism resorts, from Whistler to Aspen, to Zermatt and Val Gardena.

Hundreds of thousands of votes were cast over the three months leading up to the prize-giving ceremony. Val Thorens was selected by a jury comprising tourism businesses and experts, Tour Operators, and above all, the general public, who voted in their hundreds of thousands. Over a million online votes were registered in the Best French Resort category and Val Thorens won over Chamonix, Courchevel, La Plagne, Les Arcs, Les 2 Alpes, Megève, Serre Chevalier, Tignes, and Val d'Isère. The vote was based on overall perception of the resort.

Val Thorens has established itself as a world benchmark resort. It enjoyed a standing ovation from the public during the ceremony and congratulations from a number of major ski industry names and brands.

Also in the running for the title of "World's Best Ski Resort": Kitzbühel, Austria /Lake Louise, Canada / Portillo, Chile / Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany / Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy / Kranjska Gora, Slovenia / Yong Pyong, South Korea / Åre, Sweden / Laax, Switzerland /Deer Valley Resort, United States, ...

Val Thorens is proud to now number amongst the World Travel Awards 2013 winners alongside Las Vegas, Lufthansa, Le Fouquet's and even London.

"Winning the title of Best French Ski Resort is a triumph for Val Thorens, but being awarded the World's Best Ski Resort is the ultimate accolade and testament to the tireless work of the whole resort. Val Thorens is now the jewel in winter sports tourism's crown and a source of inspiration to offer clients even better service. Val Thorens has inspired a new energy and encouraged sector growth. The World Ski Awards offers its hearty congratulations to Val Thorens." Sion Rapson, World Ski Awards Organisation Committee

With almost 200 guests, the prize-giving ceremony was a major event! The World Ski Awards 2013 reward the best ski resort, the best hotel, the best hotel ski shop, and finally, the best chalet. It all takes place in a prestigious hotel in the Austrian ski resort of Kitzbühel.

The Val Thorens delegation comprised André Plaisance (Mayor of St Martin de Belleville), Christophe Cluzel (Deputy Mayor), Pierre Josserand (President of SETAM and resort pioneer), Jean Bourcet (General Manager of SETAM), Gregory Guzzo, (Director of the Val Thorens Tourist Office and Val Thorens Bookings), William Wargniez (Director of ValThoparc - car parks), Eric Bonnel (Director of Val Thorens Tour).

The Awards signify real recognition for the highest altitude resort in Europe, which has long held the ambition of becoming a world benchmark. In Val Thorens, the resort that combines the best of skiing with the best of atmospheres, the teams work together "United", all pulling in the same direction and placing the client at the heart of everything they do, with conviviality, community and innovation as their watchwords.

In addition to being incredibly satisfying, these Awards represent genuine appreciation that comes with its own responsibilities, and spurs us to go even further.

"We are very honoured to receive these awards, which reward the work carried out by all of the resort's key players to bring the highest level of welcome and comfort to Val Thorens so each of our guests may experience the joys of the mountains. To be designated the most innovative resort in Europe, the best resort in France, and then in the world, is recognition but also a responsibility that we will ensure we honour." Andre Plaisance, Mayor of Saint-Martin de Belleville

"We are receiving a double reward through these two competitions. It's a wonderful testimony from the public and tourism professionals. It's a reward for 40 years of effort and multi-generational work, unified today under the umbrella of Val Thorens United. Our ambitious positioning project was to make Val Thorens a world benchmark and that has been achieved today. This gives us a huge responsibility and motivates us even more for the future." Gregory Guzzo, Director of the Val Thorens Tourist Office and Val Thorens Bookings

"These accolades are to be shared between all of Val Thorens' devotees, major players and ambassadors. We are proud of these fantastic awards, which show us that we are heading in the right direction and encourage us to continue to strive for more". Jean Bourcet, General Manager of SETAM, Val Thorens' ski lift association.

A huge thank you to you, the key players, and finally, to the tourism experts for the confidence they have shown in us!

United we move mountains!
