What’s new in the ski area
Caron 3200: THE new product not to be missed
La Cime Caron, the highest point in the ski area of Val Thorens at 3200 meters above sea level, offers a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding peaks. Accessible to all thanks to the ski lifts, the Cime Caron is a destination in itself and an essential passage in the ski area of Val Thorens – Orelle and the 3 Valleys, winter and summer.
Undergoing transformation in recent years, Cime Caron will welcome a new one this winter
building : Caron 3200A state-of-the-art building perched at an altitude of 3200 metres, this is the challenge taken up by SETAM (the ski lift management company) in order to offer new services on this legendary summit and improve the visitor experience with a place to rest, meet and eat.
The different spaces of the complex
Caron 3200 will host:
- A restaurant with an intuitive and digitalized concept with 130 seats
- An intimate wine bar
- A rooftop with a bar and a panoramic terrace
- A multi-service space of 80 m2 that can be used as a screening room, exhibition room or reception area for events and seminars
An energy challenge
The extraordinary nature of the place made it necessary to protect it by limiting the impact on the environment and reducing energy needs. The challenge was to cover the energy needs of such a complex at 3200 meters, in often extreme conditions. To do this, the building was designed with state-approved architects and landscapers to blend harmoniously into the Cime Caron environment. In addition to this, SETAM implemented various technical solutions to reduce the impacts on the climate, energy and biodiversity:
- Use of a mix of renewable energies (thermo-solar, solar panels, recovery of fatal heat from the Orelle-Caron cable car) which make it possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the operation of the building
- Water resource management with an innovative micro-step
- Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions linked to transport by choosing local and national service providers with sourcing and products made in France
- Reducing the impact on biodiversity by including tinted windows in the project to prevent collisions with birds
Replacement of the 2 Lacs chairlift by a gondola
Starting this winter, the 2 Lacs chairlift will be replaced by a new 10-seater gondola lift that is fast, comfortable and modern.
This device will arrive higher than the previous one, at the start of the BEE zip line, thus offering more skiing to beginners.
At the departure of the cable car, an entrance designed especially for children will make it easier for them to board.
A new feature to discover on the occasion of La Grande Première, November 23, 2024!
