Val Thorens, Place Caron

The winter season launch weekend in Val Thorens is a not-to-be-missed event for winter sports fans. It offers a variety of activities, introductions to different disciplines and a test village to discover the latest equipment from over 50 brands. Festive entertainment, a quiz and giveaways enliven the weekend. On Saturday evening, a Raclette Party awaits you, followed by the "Grande Première Séance", a screening of mountain films.

The 2023 edition in pictures

It's THE weekend to kick off the winter season and the place to be for all winter sports fans, with a programme including:

  • Skiing, skiing, skiing, discovering the ski area and introductory lessons to learn new winter sports or simply improve your technique.
  • A test village on the Place Caron with all the latest equipment and tests. All kinds of winter sports will be on show, thanks to the presence of over fifty major brands of skis, snowboards, accessories, ski touring, freeride skiing... 
  • lots of festive entertainment throughout the weekend: a fun zone (mini-snowpark, etc.), live DJs, quizzes, lots of prizes to be won, etc.
  • a Raclette Party on Saturday from 5 p.m.
  • a screening of mountain films on Saturday from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Friday 

  • 3pm - 8pm Test cards can be collected from the Tourist Office

Saturday

  • 8h Opening of the "Welcome" tent on Place Caron to collect test cards. Free and open to all.
  • 8h45 setpoint opening
  • 8h45 : opening of ski lift ticket offices
  • 9h Opening of ski lifts
  • 9h Opening of the exhibitors' village and launch of tests on Place Caron
  • 9h : Skis and snowboards can be waxed (places are limited) - Offered by Prosneige
  • All day Place Caron DJ, quiz with prizes to be won, photocall, introduction and discovery of the domain with UCPA, mini-snowpark (along the Castor and Pollux carpets), etc.
  • 9am - 10.30am : Breakfast hosted by Val Thorens at Place Caron. Free and open to all.
  • From 11 a.m. Opening of the Brasseurs Savoyards temporary brewery - beers and goodies to be won!
  • 14h30 The event: entertainment in the exhibitors' village, lots of prizes to be won! While stocks last.
  • 15h : First edition of the Contest by Esf on the mini-snowpark (alongside the Castor and Pollux carpets) - Subject to sufficient snow cover
  • 15h30 Latest equipment loans
  • 16h00 mulled wine on offer at the UCPA stand
  • 16h30 : live graffiti in the colours of Val Thorens
  • 16h45 Closure of ski lifts
  • From 5pm : Raclette Party Place Caron offered by Raclette de Savoie and live DJ
  • 6.30pm - 8.30pm Screening of mountain films with valley riders at Le Lac Blanc cinema in Val Thorens.

Have you booked your weekend for La Grande Première? Pre-register for equipment tests

The tests will only be accessible to holders of a ski pass and a test card (free on presentation of the ski pass). Once you have pre-registered, you will need to collect the test card on site, together with 2 proofs of identity (identity card, passport or driving licence + health insurance card, bank card, student card, etc.).

  • The day before the event, 22 November from 3pm to 8pm in the lobby of the Tourist Office
  • 23 November from 8am to 4pm at the Place Caron test village
  • 24 November from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the test village on Place Caron

Good to know: You must have ski or snowboard boots and ski poles, as this equipment is not loaned out at the test village.

The pre-registration link for equipment tests will be available in November 2024.

Customers coming to the tests with their equipment will be able to leave it in a locker provided for this purpose. This will be a fully enclosed and supervised inflatable tent next to the test village (on the terrace of the Fitz Roy hotel).

Information on car parks

Parking in one of the resort's car parks is compulsory. You'll benefit from a special weekend rate of €18 (or €9 a day) for La Grande Première.
