June 22, at the initiative of the Chez Pépé Nicolas alpine farm, the valley hosts the ancestral ritual of “the climb”. A day of conviviality and sharing around this traditional ceremony to celebrate the arrival of summer. Departing from Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, the herds will leave the village to reach the mountain pasture 6 km higher between Les Menuires and Val Thorens.
The programme
- 8h15: meet in front of the town hall of Saint-Martin-de-Belleville to wait for the animals in a gentle mountain atmosphere (possibility of having a coffee at L'Art B)
- 8:30 a.m./8:45 a.m.: departure of the herd. You will have 6 km to cover at the gentle pace of the cows or at the faster pace of the goats. The herd will cross the villages of St Marcel, Praranger, Bettaix (where a small supply will await you), then the bottom of Menuires at Plan de l'eau to arrive at the mountain pasture of Chez Pépé Nicolas where a Savoyard meal will be offered to you.
- Menu at €26, €13 for children: old-fashioned tomato & Sérac de l'alpage Mozzarella style, Diot & crozet risotto, blueberry tart.
- 15h: milking goats
- 16h: mountain pasture games for young and old
- 18h: alpine evening: DJ, BBQ, outdoor bar and good humor
- Menu for €30: onion soup, BBQ Ribs, candied vegetables and mashed potatoes, Savoie biscuit and pears.
- 23h: end of the evening
